In Honor of Guru Purnima
The Wisdom in Inviting Mentorship into our Lives
Guru Purnima is a special and auspicious day which is set aside for offering respect to our chosen mentors, teachers, leaders and gurus. A time for honoring those who have inspired us and for whom we can thank for the wisdom and clarity that is present within.
This time always gives me pause to reflect on the many mentors who have inspired my life. Although somewhat unconsciously, I have always had a mentor in my adult life. It is just in my nature, I guess, to want to learn and grow in every possible way and I’ve been most open to learning from people how inspire me by their morals, their clarity and their devotion to personal growth.
And so this day I give thanks and love to the many, many men and women (and mostly children!) who have been my greatest teachers and mentors throughout the years. While some stand out as especially meaningful, I have a gift of surrounding myself with the most incredible, wise, kind and inspiring sorts of folks. How blessed I have been in this journey.
Just recently I was reflecting on the principle of abundance and sort of questioning where mine was hiding. Over time and in the process of reflecting my experience with friends, I came to the realization that I am absolutely and incredibly abundant. I was especially touched and reminded of my abundance by one of my children who told me we are “rich in love” in our family. I am abundant in family and motherhood, in love, intimacy and romance, in partnership, in friendship, in education, in comfort, in art, in laughter, in maitri and in desire. For the friends, family and acquaintances along the way who remind me and who inspire me to continue on my journey of self-discovery and service to my community, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. To my clients who trust in me and who teach me in their experience and their desires, I honor you deeply.
It is in this nest of loving, sharing and kind souls who are passionate about their purpose, who are open to growing together, and who are willing to share their experiences for my benefit that the most growth is available to me. As we invite like-minded and NON-LIKE-MINDED people into our lives, we have the opportunity to experience the light of the world as I believe that every living soul has a light to share. May we stay open and willing to invite the light and love of others into our realm in an effort to become our best selves.
Om Shanti, dear ones. We are indeed surrounded by wisdom and light.
