Golden Milk
Ayurveda is rooted in tradition and ritual and the popular tonic, Golden Milk, is a beautiful representation of both. Golden Milk utilizes one of natures most potent medicines, spices, to boost immunity, soothe the body and soul, increase joint health, enhance digestion, promotes restful sleep and it is anti-inflammatory. Golden Milk, when made with milk and ghee, is a fantastic tonic that nourishes the nervous system and balances vata dosha. It is pretty much a powerhouse and is incredibly delicious this time of year.
Ingredients:
milk of choice
1/2 tsp ground turmeric
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cardamom
1/4 tsp ground ginger or a slice of fresh ginger
pinch of nutmeg
1 tsp ghee (can substitute coconut oil)
Optional: honey or maple syrup to sweeten
Optional: strand of saffron
Directions:
Heat milk on the stove. Remove milk from stove and add spices, saffron and ghee to pan with milk. Froth or stir and pour into a mug. Add sweetener. Enjoy!
NOTE: If adding honey as a sweetener, be sure to let cool to drinkable temperature before adding honey as otherwise it can become toxic.
