Agni Building Appetizer

Agni is the foundation of health. Agni, the digestive fire within, changes with the seasons and stages of life and is deeply impacted by ones diet and exercise habits. Digestive issues occur when agni is not functioning properly and so Ayurveda implores a great deal of energy into having properly functioning agni.

Ideally, we feel hungry at regular meal times, eat at the same time each day, feel energized after a meal, and are without digestive discomforts like gas, bloating, indigestion, heaviness after eating and have healthy, regular elimination.

When we eat without the agni being strong, or when we aren’t very hungry, proper digestion does not occur and ama (toxins) build up in the system and other health issues can occur. To maintain a healthy agni, this combination of pungent, sour and salty appetizer can do wonders!

Prepare this just before eating it and eat about 10 minutes before a meal. It can be taken each time a meal is eaten or simply before your largest meal of the day. Continue regular use until agni is strong and healthy on its own and then on an as-needed basis before larger meals, holiday meals or other times when food might be heavy or difficult to digest.

Ingredients:

1 small slice of ginger

Several drops of lime juice

Small pinch of rock salt

Slice the ginger into small pieces. Sprinkle 2-4 drops of lime juice and a pinch of salt on the ginger. Eat 10 minutes before your meal.
